Jeff is absolutely "given the contestants' bios." In fact, he's a part of
the casting process.

Caller: Question about a local person on this edition, Jeff Wilson, what was
he like since he was a personal trainer?

Jeff: He is a very physically fit guy and you see that the first few minutes
of the show. He's not only in great shape but has a great understanding
about how the body works. We gave him a hard time and you know he shaves
his entire body. The interesting thing about it was we told him he would
want to quit because of that but every time he left the room we would keep
talking about him.

Caller: You must reject a lot of people for the show (He asks about having a
show of the people that didn't make it, mentions American Idol)

Jeff: That is funny. I don't know why we would do that; interesting though
to meet someone who is absolutely fascinating but you know will never be on
the show. Maybe we are convinced they don't understand the show.
