IONIA -- To the little boy's mother, it was just a 6-year-old boy
playing around.

But when Mason Jammer, a kindergarten student at Jefferson
Elementary in Ionia, curled his fist into the shape of a gun
Wednesday and pointed it at another student, school officials said
it was no laughing matter.

They suspended Mason until Friday, saying the behavior made other
students uncomfortable, said Erin Jammer, Mason's mother.

School officials allege Mason had displayed this kind of behavior
for several months, despite numerous warnings.

"I do think it's too harsh for a six-year-old," said Jammer, who was
previously warned that if Mason continued the practice he would be
suspended. "He's six and he just likes to play."

Jammer says her son isn't violent, and there are other, more
effective ways of teaching him not to make a gun with his hand.

"Maybe what you could do is take his recess away," suggested Jammer,
adding her son doesn't have toy guns at home.

"He's only six and he doesn't understand any of this."

Polical correctness gone haywire. About time the do gooders got a
life.=
Poor
little tyke. Only doing what boys (and some girls) do.

Really, all kids that age made that kind of gesture, and
it's in play. =A0I don't like to blame every bone-headed
decision like this as "political correctness" as much
as I blame poor decisions on the part of individuals.
I think attaching a label like this is the same as
attaching blanket labels on, say, "liberals," "right-tards,"
or whatever group one wishes to slap a label on and thereby
dismiss anything a member of that group has to say.

Just my opinion, which could be wrong as I've often been.

I think Nancy's right.

IMO, there are folks that want to crush the life out of everything
around them ("It willb e safe that way") they will use whatever tools
they ahave at hand, whether the tools are associated with the right-
wing, which substitutes for the barely extant conservative movement,
or the "politically correct" senselessness that too often substitutes
for the barely existant left wing in this country.

Mick

I agree that there are people who want to crush the life out of everything
around them, I just wonder how so many of them end up in education!
