Stem, N.C. - WRAL News has learned that investigators believe skeletal
remains found Tuesday afternoon belong to missing Stem mother Kelly
Morris. Her husband Scott Morris was taken into custody and was being
booked late Tuesday at the Oxford magistrate's office.

The 28-year-old mother of two was last seen at her home on Sept. 3, 2008.

The following day, the house she shared with her family, including her
husband, Scott Morris, caught fire, which officials ruled was arson.
Hours afterward, authorities found Morris' car about a mile from her home
with her keys, purse and cell phone inside.

Since her disappearance, authorities and volunteers have searched
numerous times to find her.

WRAL News is awaiting confirmation of the official identity of the
remains from the state Medical Examiner's office.

The sheriff would not say Tuesday what the charges against Scott Morris
are, and officials would not allow WRAL News access to the arrest
paperwork, which is a matter of public record.

And no leak to the media about where the body was found. Usually there are
shots of a swarm of police cars and an area cordoned off, if it was an
outdoor scene. Had he rented a storage facility somewhere I wonder?

In the document, Kelly Morris' father and stepmother allege that in the
months prior to their daughter's disappearance that Scott Morris "engaged in
a pattern of emotional abuse directed toward Kelly and both of her
children."

It also cites an affidavit of an State Bureau of Investigation agent
claiming that Scott Morris had "punched holes in the wall during arguments
and once threw a computer out a window."

The Currins also state in their complaint that "the continued separation of
Haley from her sister Taylor is causing Haley substantial emotional
distress" and that Scott Morris had been uncooperative in helping his
daughter cope with the loss of their mother.
