I would not have expected any bond after a year much less the obvious deep
and abiding one evident in the video.

I wonder if there is more information on this story available, but I don't
really want to spoil the awe I enjoyed at the video.

According to Wiki (not the best ref, I know), the story is true and
they ahd a second reunion about a year later when the Lion was
considerably bigger, thatn the large cat in the first video.

Two things I wonder.

First - When the lion jumped up on the guy, did he have - just for a
second or two - the image that the lion could kill him without even
trying?

And second - Christian was obviously habilitated to humans. In the
African wild, did this bring danger on both Christian and his pride?

I have wondered those same things. Much as I love my two cats (9 pounds each), I know I would not be brave (or perhaps foolish) enough to "voluntarily" let a cat of that size hug me.

Snopes.com also states that the story is true. Their article also says that conservationist George Adamson (whose wife, Joy, wrote "Born Free") helped the lion settle into Kenya's Kora Reserve. The fact that it is a reserve should bring a greater degree of safety than if they were settled elsewhere in Africa.
