You're an idiot.
Yes, they *are* trained not to respond if there is no scent present
that they're been trained to hit on. They don't get rewarded for false
hits when they're in training *or* out in the field working. They are
only rewarded when they do. Dogs who can't or won't differentiate
don't make it through the training program. But then, as a psych
expert, surely you're well informed about the concept of positive
reinforcement.
