This is NOT off-topic! Eight babies in five minutes IS a trueAlso the reporting is criminal. In the left column it's reported
crime!

Jon and Kate make $125k an episode. Do you know if that's true? I
think when the show first started Jon was making $42k/yr working as a
computer tech for the state of PA.

polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and had fertility treatment right
after getting married to Jon, resulting in twins. A few years later
she had another fertility treatment resulitng in sextuplets. Hence

Someone on another forum said that this woman can't get a reality show
because none of her names rhymes with fourteen. Oh well.
There's SERIOUSLY a show like that? Ho-boy. I cannot imagine subjecting
myself to a houseful of screaming babies for any reason, let alone
entertainment! What is there to do all day besides go down the line and
feed, change, put down for nap, pick up, feed, bathe... more diapers,
wipe puke, calm the screamer.... just typing the likely show summary is
painful. Not saying I mind all that for a real family member, but a TV
show? Wow.
been on since they were about two or just before two (TD would
probably know.) My sister watches it and was always talking about it
so I caught an episode and then caught up on the ones I missed during
a marathon night or weekend. I haven't watched it this season except
for the episode where Jon and Kate renewed their wedding vows in
Hawaii. It's on Monday nights, family nights at TLC. I don't know in
which order but it's: Jon & Kate Plus 8, Little People Big World, and
17 Kids and Counting (The Duggars, maybe it's not called that anymore
since they just had their 18th kid.)
Here's Kate talking about the octuplets plus pictures of Jon & Kate
and the 8.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2009/01/kate-gosselin-o.html
Kate is the star of TLC's hit TV show "Jon & Kate Plus 8," which
follows the never-boring life with her husband, Jon, and their eight
children -- a set of twins and a set of sextuplets.
"I felt like I had octuplets ... I had eight in three years," Kate
said. "[The news of the octuplets' birth] caused me to review the
feelings and emotions I had when my six were born! So overwhelming!"
snip
Q.: What would you do if you had 14 children? Can you imagine it?
A.: I cannot imagine having any more than eight. It would be almost
double my workload and even though I am very organized, I could not do
it well!
Sorry, I really don't know when it started myself. I don't ever watch the
first 'go round' on Monday nights, so I don't see the programs in order.
When I watch it, it's as you said, something like an all day marathon or if
it's late night and I can't sleep, I might be flipping through the channels
and see it on. All that screaming tends to get on my nerves at times. And
that whole year of 'potty training' really got on my nerves. I don't look
forward to seeing non-stop potty chairs.
Did you catch any of the episodes with Beth, Kate's rich friend, or Jody,
the relative who sometimes baby sat the kids? My daughter said 'they aren't
on any more because Kate made that stink about not wanting them to get any
pay, even though episodes were filmed at their homes. I haven't checked out
the 'hate kate' blogs in months, I'll have to hunt those down again. They
could be pretty funny. Somebody said 'there are no
grandparents/relatives/cousins, etc, because Kate doesn't speak to anyone in
her family. She's apparently one of a multi-sibling family and on the outs
with everyone of them.
td
brother also doesn't show up on the show or does he? I remember they
went somewhere and it was snowing and they left the kids at Kate's
friend Beth's house, and another time they went swimming at Beth's
pool.
I thought it funny when they renewed their vows in Hawaii (all paid
for by TLC) that no one from their immediate familes showed up, only
those distant relatives of Jon's that happened to live in Hawaii and
hadn't seen him since he was a child. I don't blame the family for
wanting money from the show since it's the number one TLC show and
brings in a lot of advertising dollars. But then again how wise is it
to have the family grow up on television. I think on reality shows
there has to be a character that's not likeable to make it interesting
and Kate fits the bill. I think people tune in just as much to hate
her as they do to watch the kids. And she's taking ia check to the
bank every week, and a large check at that.
I bet they also film more episodes at $125k a pop.
And that's why the mother in Southern California could succeed at
getting a reality show.
------------------------------------
I saw another one of these shows, only one time. I can't recall the title of it, but the family was so much *nicer*. IIRC, the father was a policeman. They had two sets of twins, further apart in ages, and then the sextuplets. But they were much more normal. They weren't yelling and screaming all the time. The older children were very sweet with the little ones. And the dad actually worked with his kids, letting them help him build stuff. He was putting together bunkbeds for the little ones and was so patient, letting the children help him with the screws and stuff. And the mother also spent most of her time and energy incorporating teaching with the kids. They helped her fold clothes, or working in the kitchen. And they actually all sat down to eat their meals together, something I never see Jon & kate do. I was thinking, 'man, I wish they'd do these people instead of the Goslins."
I heard that they have been signed for a series by TLC. The Hayes family from Marlboro, NJ.
