From the article:
"> It began, police said, with an argument over whether he was cheating
her."
It usually does. Too bad the whole world turns a blind eye to cheating.
It's the reason behind virtually every divorce and every incident of
domestic violence, including murder. Ask any cop or marriage counselor.
The top reasons for divorce can be boiled down to: Time, Money and Sex.
Time: Meaning one of the partners is complaining about commitment or
lack of communication.
Yes, because they're spending their emotional capital on someone else and
ignoring their husband/wife - but fully expect the husband/wife to be okay
with this and not make a fuss.
Money: Financial reasons are a large percentage for many divorces.
Especially when family money is being spent on an affair partner, on
everything from Christmas gifts to week-long cruises.
Sex: Well that is kind of self explantory..
Yup. They either ignore their spouse or happily load up on double helpings
of sex, putting their unknowing spouse's life at risk (not to mention their
emotional health and sanity).
They are all support one another like a equidistant triangle, and I
realize there are many detailed factors like physical abuse, drug and
alcohol abuse that are subset, but as I stated, the reason can be boiled
down to three ambiguous factors.
I don't think the whole world turns a blind eye to infidelity, as much
as many people don't want to intrude on other peoples' relationships,
But there sure are plenty of them who will happily intrude on sombody else's
marriage by dating and screwing one of the partners, and then spew
ridiculous crap like, "well, they didn't make any vows to *me* -- "
unless there is some violent factors involved, some sort of physical or
emotional abuse.
That generally happens during the cheating and after they get caught.
Here's my offer: Look at any murder case and see how many of them did *not*
involve cheating in the marriage and an "interering" spouse getting
murdered. Scott Peterson, Susan Smith and Charles Stuart come to mind right
away.
I just wish that the news and the investigators would stop ignoring,
downplaying and glossing over the role that cheating plays in murder and
domestic violence. *That* is what makes me so angry and frustrated.
Oh, yeah, and there was Betty Broderick, and Drew Peterson, and the Bethpage
case just this week -
