Well, you're right, Darwin was all about survival of the fittest and
passing on those fittest genes from generation to generation. Then one of
'em leaves the gene-carrier in a hot car, or, lets the tyke take an
unexpected dip in the backyard pool, or, as in this case, lets the little
thing uzi himself to death. Yes, there should be an award for the
dumbest, now that you mention it.

Actually the Darwin Award is to honor those who "stupid" themselves out of
the gene pool. This guy would be a candidate if, say, his son's Uzi got
out of control and shot *him*, or if he shot himself in a similar manner
as his son.

So you think this father DIDN'T stupid himself out of the gene pool when he
let his kid kill himself?! The Darwin THEORY goes to perpetuation of the
species, as in offspring: passing on one's genes to future generations,
because one is one of "the fittest". If one stupidly and accidently KILLS
(or maims) oneself, one cannot perpetuate the species, because one's genes
are not "the fittest". Therefore the Darwin AWARD goes to one who is most
stupid (v. fittest), who offs him/herself in the process of demonstrating
("non-fittest") ie STUPID genetics.

IN THAT VEIN, if one kills one's offspring, or is stupidly complicit in the
death of one's own offspring, one's genes are AGAIN NOT SUCCESSFULLY PASSED
DOWN - and in this way the parents "stupid" themselves out of the future
gene pool of humankind. So yes, IOW, I agree, there oughta be an award for
dumbest parent.
