Dr. Charles Bizilj stood 10 feet behind his son this weekend at a
"Machine Gun Shoot" in Westfield as the 8-year-old aimed an Uzi at a
pumpkin in the distance.
As Bizilj reached for his camera, the boy clutched the gun in his
arms, squeezed the trigger, and lost control of the weapon, which
flipped backwards and fatally shot his son, Christopher, in the head.
"It was all a blur," Bizilj said this afternoon in a telephone
interview. "I'm still in the grieving process."
Christopher was accompanied by a trained professional as he held the 9-
mm Micro Uzi machine gun at the Westfield Sportsman's Club Sunday
afternoon, but Bizilj said he doesn't think the shooting guide was
holding the weapon as his son pressed the trigger.
"This accident was truly a mystery to me," he said. "This is a
horrible event, a horrible travesty, and I really don't know why it
happened. I don't think it's relevant that he wasn't holding the
He said his son, a third grader who loved to hike and bike, had
experience firing handguns and rifles. But he said this was the first
time he had fired an automatic weapon.
"I gave permission for him to fire the Uzi," Bizilj said. "I watched
several other children and adults use it. It's a small weapon, and
Christopher was comfortable with guns. There were larger machine guns
with much more recoil, and we avoided those."
DUH. It is smaller so it will flip, just as it did, more easily than one
of the longer weapons would. This guy is a doctor? In-freakin-credible.
Un-effing-believable. Step right up, kiddies, come fire an uzi, step
right up! Riiiiight. I think everybody involved ought to be charged to
the fullest extent of the law. About time somebody set some bloody
examples of nutters like this. They aren't the only ones. Articles say
other kids fired that same gun that day. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?
*These people* are apparently physicians, director of an emergency room.
Did you see the link I posted with video of the childs father? I'm still
blown away by the *accident* explanation. ER doctors see so many
*accidents*, one would think they are more *aware* than the rest of us at
exactly how fast an *accident* happens, especially when 8 yr olds are
involved. I'm all for teaching responsible young people about gun safety,
but allowing an eight year old to fire an automatic weapon doesn't
qualify. All the stories I've read explain that this child, in his short
eight years, has fired numerous handguns and rifles. He's an 8 year old,
for chrisssakes. Or rather, he *was* an eight year old. And his father
is photographing him shooting an Uzi?
Saw the video, yes. Nevertheless, "these people," whether physicians or
lawyers or sanitation workers, are nutters if they regularly participate in
this sort of madness and subject children and others to such mortal danger.
All ought to be prosecuted, and gun shows like this ought to be closely
monitored by LE IMO, on site. Obviously have private "experts" on hand means
