Automatic would be obvious because, depending on what mode it is in, it
could fire hundreds of rounds per minute, even per-second in "burst"
mode. Semi-automatic would go off at a pace at which a human could
repeatedly pull the trigger - much slower. Is that what you were
wondering about?
We used to employ a technique we called wiggle finger where we would
hold a firearm in one hand and wiggle the index finger of the other hand
within the trigger guard, sort of like those windup wigglers called
'hell-fire' adapters.
Interesting, I can envision what you mean and I wouldn't mind trying that
but any form of rapid-fire is prohibited at my range. I can shoot my 22 in
my backyard (I have berm and a suitable backstop), but I don't want to
freak out me neighbors so I rarely do. Even though they wouldn't be at
risk from me, people are on edge about it because once we had a guy
somewhere around here sighting in for deer season, and he managed to send
a slug thru the wall and into the interior of another house :-(
That'd worry me! Anyway, I'm just curious as to WHAT it was Bill heard and
why, if he ever found out.
