That would make sense if all of them rushing aroundin DC would fix
the problem "ASAP". What should have happened is that the Bush
regulators should have sounded the alarm earlier. My 60-ish
CPA has been pointing to the mortgage meldown for several years.

Agreed - I worked in banking for a number of year leading up to this, and it was foreseeable. Not the scale (not to *me*, anyway), but that there'd be an eventual fallout from giving out bad loans as a common practice. This can't be blamed on just one person, though (I know some folks feel Bush is the anti-Christ, but still...). There's plenty of blame to go around for this debacle on both sides of the so-called aisle.

There is no benefit to Obama and McCain rushing to the Senate floor.

Hearing Obama and McCain discuss the situation in a debate would
be infinitely more helpful. At any rate, they could hold the
debate in D.C. if their presence is needed, which it is not.

They weren't going to debate on the economy, though. And since Obama is (was?) supposedly getting intensive prep for the debate, I'd expect it to stay on-message. Anyway, it still could take place tomorrow, and if not, what's the big deal with postponing it a bit? As long as all McC-BO debates are finished several days before the election so undecided voters can digest what was said, I don't see a problem.
