I've never listened to Rush Limbaugh, but if it was posted,
I might have commented on it, and I may have commented on
John McCain's remark. I honestly don't remember. I do know
that I did not then and I do not now trash public figures,
political candidates especially, because of their family
problems. Most of it I think is due to sexism. Senator
Clinton got her share and now Governor Palin is getting
her share. As I said earlier, Vice President Gore's and
President Reagan's family problems barely rated a whisper
of criticism.
Kind regards,
Nancy
I didn't hear that either until somebody earlier posted the story
about
Rush's and McCain's comments. It was disgusting, and had I read that
on
this ng I would have jumped in with the same arguments sticking up for
Chelsea.
For anybody to be bringing that up as an argument now, that it's okay
to
do that against Palin's family because Rush did it is stupid.
Chocolic
I didn't mention Rush's and McCain's hateful comments as an argument
that
it's okay to do that to Palin's family. I mentioned the comments about
Chelsea to say, "It was apparently okay to do that to Clinton's child,
because no one came to Chelsea's defense; but now everybody's up in
arms
because something was said about Palin's child." The fact is, those
comments *were* mentioned, if not on this newsgroup, at least in the
mainstream media. It seemed that many of the ones who are crying
"foul"
so loudly about the Palin coverage thought the jokes at Chelsea's
expense
were "oh, so funny!"...or short of that, "Politics as usual." It just
depends on whose ox is being gored.
Linda
I find that hard to believe nobody came to Chelsea's defense. Why
didn't
the Democrats stick up for her? I'm sure they did. And I'm sure anybody
would have. Thank gawd for Chelsea that it didn't get to be as big of a
news item as this beating up of Palin's daughter.
Chocolic
I don't remember Rush's or McCain's attacks on Chelsea, but I remember
lots of other comments on her looks at that time. Even SNL took
swipes
at her. And she was just 13 years old, a very sensitive time for a
kid.
I remember Saturday Night Lives swipes at her. And I remember Rush, after
all, it was his hey-day of popularity with the conservatives. Rush made
disgusting references to the poor kid more than once, IIRC.
And I'd hardly compare those instances to this at all. Those attacks were
vicious, cruel assaults on a child who wasn't being paraded around as a
campaign prop.
