That's an exceptionally elaborate process for just one person, said
Brenda Wilson, a microbiology professor at the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign. She did post-doctoral research on anthrax.
"I don't believe that he could do this all on his own. It does require
more people than one," Wilson told TPMmuckraker.
"First you have to lyopholize it," Wilson explained. "Lyopholiziation is
a drying process. But then after you dry it down, in order to make it
weapons-grade, you have to do a lot of grinding and stuff -- it's like a
milling process. And during the milling process you need to add
substances to it, like sillica, that sort of coats the spores and makes
them less sticky."
"People would notice what he was doing. People would be aware of him
doing it. I know what people are doing in my lab. Even if he wanted to
be sneaky about it, people would know that things were done."

He was in the lab many late nights and weekends. Seems that was when
he was doing this stuff.

There's another aspect of this story that's been left dormant. During
the flurry of stories about the investigation not long after the
attacks, ABC News reported an exclusive that linked the anthrax to
Saddam Hussein's Iraq. They said there was some ingredient in the
material (I can't recall what it was) that was a signature of Saddam's
weapons program, and as I recall they had at least three independant
high level sources within the federal government for this
information.

It later turned out that this "signature ingredient" wasn't present at
all. They were getting played by the feds, almost certainly
coordinated by someone in the administration. Quite a bit of
propaganda, and yet another brick in the wall of lies that lead us in
to the Iraq war.

I wish the rest of the media would light a fire on this and pressure
ABC News to release the names of the sources that lied to them -
anybody want to bet against it tracing right back to the Vice-
President's office? That kind of manipulation of the news ought to be
outed, vigorously, and it's a real shame that ABC doesn't have the
cajones to do so. Or that the rest of the media doesn't care enough
to resurrect this aspect of the story.

It's also a good example of how the media doesn't have a liberal bias
- if they did, they'd be all over this. They don't have a
conservative bias, either. They have a bias for kissing the ass of
those in power.
