I wish I could hire this guy at double his old salary.
Integrity is so rare a quality now. Every since his death, news
outlets have rewritten history, erasing Helm's legacy of using power
to spread hate mongering and war against anyone that thinks or looks
different. I hope someone or some entity rewards this guy...
WM
I have hated Jesse Helms since the early 1980s. I thought he was a pig
and
I most certainly do not think that he deserves to have the flag flown
at half-staff for him. HOWEVER, I was also a soldier and if I had been
in this situation I would have to say that it isn't my call and it
wasn't this
guy's call, either. I don't know for sure that I would call what this
guy did "integrity".
And if they ordered you to block the doors of the university to keep out
the black students?
If they ordered you to round up all the Jews and put them in cattle cars?
Refusing an order you believe to be immoral is the essence of integrity..
And you are equating flying a flag at half-staff following the death of a
Senator with refusing students entrance to a university because of their
race and the Holocaust? You think that it is immoral to fly the flag at
half-staff because you disagree with someone's policies?
It's easier to be a good soldier, to obey, even at the risk of your own
life. It's harder to think for yourself, to refuse an order, to risk
your career, your finances, even when your own spouse is urging you to
just go along.
Keep in mind what he was asked to do (actually, ordered to do). Who would
be hurt by flying the flag at half-staff? Who loses out on their
education? Who is being put to death?
Lowering the flag is a symbolic gesture - it won't make any difference to
the pile of embalmed meat that was Jesse Helms. Refusing to lower it is
also a symbolic gesture - and it will make a difference to the millions
of Americans who suffered discrimination and violence thanks to the
philosophy that Helms espoused.
Helms IS dead. It doesn't make any difference if the flag is not flown at
half-staff. It isn't going to change his mind. Are you believing it will
change the minds of those who think like him? What happens when Carter
dies, or Clinton, or Teddy Kennedy? Who should make the decision to lower
the flag at state and federal facilities for them? Should it be decided by
each and every federal employee at each facility?
Bo Raxo
Don't waste your time with Bo. All you have to do is read a few of his
posts and you'll realize he's a troll looking for attention. If you
say the sky is blue, he'll argue with you just for the sake of arguing.
