BTW I oppose teh death penalty for three reasons.

1) You can't do anything to remedy the inevitable error. It is also
incredibly expensive to to pursue the DP because of safegaurds to
prevent wrongful execution - which cannot succed 100% of the time.

2) You don't want to lose the information that goes to the grave.
Who knows what we would ahve found out if we kept Tim McVey in a small
cell for the better part of a century? (If I were conspiracy-minded,
I would say that is why we executed him)

3) It's deterent effect is debatable - there are some cases where a
person will kill knowing that they will die themselvesa, when they
would not kill if they thought they would have to sit in a cell and
think for a few decades before they die without having a real life.
