Gas station owner killed over price war

DETROIT, March 29 (UPI) -- The killing of a Detroit gas station owner
was likely in retaliation for the shooting death of a rival gas
station owner during a price war, police said.
The killing of Hassan Masbouth, 52, on Friday came just days before he
was to appear in court on murder charges for the shooting death of
Jawad Bazzi, the 46-year-old owner of a BP gas station, the Detroit
News reported.
Masbouth, who owned Pure Petro, was shot four to five times in the
head in his backyard as he was getting ready to leave the home with
his wife, police said.
"The family is devastated," said Jeffrey Lee Edison, Masbouth's
lawyer. "I don't know what to say other than that. He was the strength
of his family, he and his wife."
Masbouth was accused of shooting Bazzi in November after Bazzi walked
across the street to confront Masbouth about lowering gas prices at
his station, the newspaper said.
