On Tuesday, Will County Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak scheduled for April
2 a hearing on a motion by Craig Stebic seeking the return of his car
and truck, along with about two dozen firearms that have been held by
police since last year.

"They've had these items for over nine months, and it's time for him
to get his property back," said Stebic's attorney, George Lenard.

Until her body is found or some sort of closure is made, one of those guns
*might be* a murder weapon.

As the police say, it will hurt an investigatioin to let go of
evidence before tehy are sure of what happened to her.

OTOH, When you are dealiing with two vehicles and the guns, that is
quite a lot of capital for most people to let go of. I'm a little
suspicious of "gun collectors" personally, but gun collecting isn't a
crime.

People do disappear for reasons other than spousal murder. Running
away, stranger abduction, aquaintance abduction, sudden unexplained
death in some isolated place. All these things are rare, but they
happen.

Suspicion is not the same as certainty. The guy that died in jail for
the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping is a case in point. He had (IIRC) stuff
that was stolen from her house - pretty high index os suspicion
there.

Didn't that slime woman (Namcy Grace? Is that her name?) call for
the arrest of the fiance of the runaway bride and act like failure to
arrest him was a dereliction of duty?

I don't have any detail of this case, so its hard to judge the
likelihood of him being a perp.(Shrug.) It might be that a few detail
would make me feel strongly one way or the other. Maybe not. There
comes a point where you either have to give the guy a trial or let it
go.

Unless a guy is rich, losing two vehicles is a hardship an innocent
man shouldn't have to face. And he's presumed innnocent.
