Yes, it is a horrible tragedy that this poor child is gone. It's also a
tragedy that this guy, by his own words, had known this woman for 12
years, known that she had tried to kill herself a number of times over
that 12 year period, known that "Her problem was her mind state," Mr.
Ward said. "She wasn't stable
and wasn't able to communicate".

yet he still impregnanted her and produced a child with her, and left that
child with her when he then left the woman.

Yeah, it's not like some crazy bitch ever lied about being on birth
control...

Or that the fathers of her children might have been mentally ill themselves,
and/or had problems with poor physical health, addiction, mental illness.

Nope, he should have been THE MAN. The use of birth control was entirely
his responsibility. When she became pregnant, he should have ridden up on
his white horse and saved her, married her, been there every day paying the
bills and caring for her full time. After all, there's never been a case
where a man married the crazy bitch, and while he was off at work one day
she killed the kids anyway...

Then came:

Innocent Demesyeux, the father of Ms. Brewer's two sons,

If you name your kid "Innocent", that alone should be enough to get you
committed.

Also obviously produced not one but two children by Ms. Brewer. Another
person who impregnanted a crazy woman, again, didn't marry the mother of
his children, same as the previous father, and also left his children with
a crazy woman.

Again, these men may have had problems of their own just as severe as hers.
Mental illness, physical illness, tied down caring for their elderly
parents: you just don't know. Where was her family? You don't seem to ask
that. Nope, we just assume these guys should have donned their armor and
mounted that white horse.

And now all three of these children are dead at the hands of a crazy woman
who obviously had no problem finding men to impregnante her, crazy or not.

Maybe she found crazy men. Maybe when a system is heavily tilted towards
giving custody to mothers *and* not taking children away from mentally ill
people *and* not providing much in the way of treatment for the mentally ill
using public funds, the problem is not with the kids' fathers.

Maybe waiting for fathers to step up is a remedy that works in middle class
and upper class communities, but in poor communities it doesn't. Maybe we
need to be more willing to take children away from people whose physical
frailties, mental health, or financial distress makes them unable to care
for the kids.

Oh, I know, how horrible it would be if these kids had been taken away from
their mother and put in to foster care. That special bond only a mother
has, blah blah blah. That's what I hear every time I say we should take
kids away from someone who can't provide a passable home for them. Or any
home - why, fools around here froth at the suggestion that you even take
kids whose parents are homeless and put them in to foster care.
