Yes, conversion. If you say to me "I need to borrow your car for a
quick errand", and I give permission, I have given permission for
you to use the car to run a quick errand. Not to keep it for an
undetermined amount of time, taking it several states away. At this
point, I think the car can be considered "stolen".

Well, a religious experience causing them to run off like that would
certainly be an interesting twist to this story. And probably a
happier ending than the one you and I predict.

Not sure about that. Perhaps you are thinking of the Mann Law (sp?)
which speaks of taking a person across state lines for criminal activity.
Not sure just a car counts. Maybe if the boyfriend were with her against
his will.


If the car were declared stolen, it would be Interstate Transportation of
a Stolen Motor Vehicle which is a federal crime.
