From the Chicago Tribune--
Eric Hanson's quadruple-murder trial to begin Thursday
Tribune staff report
January 31, 2008
DuPAGE COUNTY - Opening statements are tentatively set for 1:30 p.m.
Thursday in the quadruple-murder trial of Eric Hanson, 31, of
Naperville.
Hanson is charged in the slayings of his parents, Terrance and Mary
Hanson; and his sister, Kate Hanson-Tsao, and her husband, Jimmy Tsao.
Authorities allege Hanson killed the family members after Hanson-Tsao
discovered her brother stole almost $80,000 from their parents and
threatened to tell their father.
DuPage County Judge Robert Anderson, three prosecutors and two public
defenders completed the selection of 12 jurors Tuesday and selected
two of four alternate jurors Wednesday. The final two alternates need
to be chosen Thursday morning before opening statements can begin.
The selection process has been long because jurors, should they
convict Hanson, would then have to decide whether to sentence Hanson
to death. If they decline to sentence Hanson to death, state law
requires a sentence of life in prison.
