I never would have believed that claiming abuse would get Mary
Winkler off, and she didn't exactly keep her kids at arms length
either. No, the victim was the stepfather.

I wasn't all that surprised about Winkler, because of the religion
factor. Disappointed yes, but not shocked. And if this Gough woman
wanted to get rid of the guy, why drug and shoot him? Why not drug and
suffocate him? That wouldn't have required anyone else's involvement
if he was incapacitated. I mean, she can't claim it was "heat of the
moment" or that she " just snapped" if she drugged him first.

But you know, if Phil Spector can essentially get off for what he did,
I guess anything's possible in court. :p

I don't follow the case, but from what I've heard just today,
he certainly has not "essentially gotten off". He's to have a
new trial, that's all. Not exactly a get-out-of-jail-free card.

Yeah, I know, he's not OJ-free, but he's going to be free as a bird
for the foreseeable future. There was a news story about how his
lawyers all quit, so it will take even longer for a new trial to start
now than before (since whoever he hires new needs time to prepare).
I'm aghast that a jury deadlocked on his case to begin with and
frankly not all that optimistic about a second one.
