GREENVILLE, S.C. -- A county coroner has confirmed that a body found
Wednesday afternoon is that of a child who had been reported missing -- but
he also said that the child died the day before his father reported his
disappearance.

Greenville County Chief Deputy Coroner Mike Ellis said late Thursday
afternoon that Javeion Mayes' body was identified through dental records.

The child's father, Christopher Wilson, called police Tuesday at about noon
and said that Javeion had been missing since 8 a.m.

Ellis said that Javeion actually died sometime on Monday or very early
Tuesday.

Ellis said they are awaiting some test results before making a ruling on the
cause of death.

Wilson was charged Wednesday with legal guardian neglect of child or
helpless person, a felony. He is being held on $75,000 bond. Greenville
Police Chief Terri Wilfong said evidence in the home led to the charges.

At a news conference on Thursday, when asked if Wilson will face other
charges, Wilfong said, "We expect appropriate charges to be filed soon." She
repeated that response several times.

Wilfong also said because of the delayed report, misinformation and extreme
heat, the investigation was very difficult. It wasn't until later in the day
that it was learned that the child died many hours before Wilson called
police.

Family members told WYFF 4 on Thursday that Taveion, Javeion's identical
twin, had told them that he knew his brother was dead, and that his "daddy
hit him in the head."

Margarita Looper, the twin's mother, said that she was in the middle of a
paternity dispute with Wilson and they were currently awaiting the test
results to prove whether he was the boys' father.
