Mother, 2 Daughters Found Dead in Georgia Home, 2 Boys Survive Attack
Wednesday, August 01, 2007
POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. -
Police are investigating a triple homicide at a home in Powder
Springs, Ga., in west Cobb County.
The three - a widowed mother and two of her daughters - were found
dead and two boys, one the mother's son, were found unconscious,
Powder Springs Detective Kelly Gobely said on Wednesday. The two boys
are 10 and 12 years old.
"I don't have their manner of death," Gobely said. "I know the medical
examiner's office is here. We will have to wait for them to give us
word."
WSB-TV, a local television station, reported that the victims had been
beaten to death.
She said one of the boys was transported by helicopter and the other
by ground transportation to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at
Scottish Rite. She said there was no word on their condition. She said
one of the daughters was an adult. Nobody who lived in the house was
unaccounted for, Gobely said.
Police currently do not have any suspects or tips in the case but they
are canvassing the surrounding area and speaking to neighbors. Police
are also checking phone records for the home.
Detectives went to the hospital to speak with the boys to see if they
could learn what may have happened at the house.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, neighbors identified
the victims as Jane Kuria, 47, a nurse; her daughters Isabella, 19, a
college student and Annabell, a high school sophomore; and her son,
Jeremy, 7.
The other boy in the home was not identified.
The family moved to the United States from Kenya after Kuria's husband
died, the AJC reported.
Gobely said a female relative found the bodies Wednesday morning in
the comfortable home in this suburb about 30 minutes west of Atlanta
and called 911 just before 9 a.m. She had called the residence
repeatedly the evening before and when no one answered she went to the
home the next day.
According to Gobely, the relative saw a dead body inside the home and
immediately called police.
Gobely described the bodies as being very bloody but said she could
not comment on the cause of death until an autopsy was performed.
Police and neighbors described it as a quiet neighborhood. Jermaine
Goddard, a 16-year-old neighbor who said he was a classmate of one the
girls who lived in the home, said he was shocked by the crime.
"She was just a nice kid," he said, adding he saw the girl walk a
younger brother to the school bus stop early every morning.
Powder Springs has a population of 12,000 people in an area of about 7
square miles, according to Gobely.
