In the quarter century between restoration of the Illinois
death penalty and Governor George Ryan's blanket clemency
order, 298 men and women were sentenced to death in Illinois.
Of those, 18 have been exonerated - a rate of 6%, the highest
exoneration rate of the 38 states with death penalties on
their books.
One out of every 16 persons sentenced to die in Illinois
in the past 25 years was innocent. Astonishing does not
cover it. The web page lists the exonorees and gives
their stories and stats.
When Darlie Routier is put to death, will you feel that justice
has been served?
Why do you assume that death is a penalty?- Hide quoted text -
Why do you assume that it isn't?
Death, by definition, ends all pain and suffering.
Do you put unwanted or injured animals down to "penalize" them
or to alleviate pain and suffering?
Death would be a relief, or if one is a religious nutter and
believes in "heaven", an actual reward, especially when compared
to the isolation and depravation of living every single second
of every single hour of every single day of every single week
of every single month of every single year of every single decade
of one's entire life locked inside a 10'x10' cage.- Hide quoted text

Silly me... I'm one of those non-specific nutters who continues to
maintain HOPE.
"Hope" that those people put to death actually go to heaven
and never suffer again ?
You seem conflicted.
HOPE that eventually we will have an error-free justice system without
the implementation of death.
