Illinois State Police on Sunday continued to investigate the death of
a nurse from Willowbrook whose body was found in a car at the side of
the Eisenhower Expressway on Saturday.
Meanwhile, an autopsy done on Ruth Harrell, 59, of the 0-100 block of
Kingery Quarter in the western suburb, ruled her death a homicide and
determined that strangulation and blunt head trauma killed her, a Cook
County medical examiner's spokesman said.
The woman was discovered about 1 p.m. Saturday inside a black Nissan
Sentra on the shoulder of the eastbound Eisenhower (Interstate Highway
290), near the exit ramp to Independence Boulevard, state police said.
No one else was in the car, and it was not immediately known how the
woman suffered her injuries. Police did not have anyone in custody as
of Saturday evening. Master Sgt. Luis Gutierrez said Sunday that the
investigation was ongoing, but he declined to comment further.
Neighbors at Harrell's apartment building in Willowbrook said she
lived there alone and was polite, though conversations rarely went
beyond passing greetings. They said she had a son who visited her on
occasion.
Harrell held a professional nursing license, records show.
