Hi what is the best way to find an obituary of a non-famous person? I
heard that a friend of my ex died and that someone else had read the
obit in the newspaper. I would like to read it. But, I am not sure
where this guy lived and what paper that would be in, or if it's
online.
Thanks in advance for any tips.

Take a guess on the area if you can. Check if your the newspaper in
that area has a web site with a search box. You can also call funeral
homes in the area and ask if they have a viewing or service for the
person. You could even try to email newspapers in that area to ask
them, they usually have a "Contact Us" section on their web site.
If you don't know the area at all, it will be tough.
Also if the name is at all unique, try searching on
http://news.google.com
Finally, you can use the trick we used to use many years ago when I
worked as a loan collector: if you knew where he grew up, call people
in the phone book in that area with the same last name. Say you're an
old friend from high school looking him up. You'd be amazed how
helpful people's cousins/aunts/uncles can be in putting you in touch
with someone (or, in this case, giving you an update on their
whereabouts).
