Thanks for all your posts in this -- when you first wrote about it, i
doubted you (sorry, we've been trolled here a lot), but i now believe
you really are connected with these folks, and i am grateful that you
have taken the time to get the story out.

I have to laugh. After my first post I was accused of dropping acid by
Fragile Warrior. I thought you guys were a bunch of weirdos. Tiny
Dancer was the only one that seemed to take me seriously. I was more
concerned to tell her about what was going on because she seemed so
disturbed about it. I was too.
I believed Jewell and Charles story about it being an accident and felt
horrible for all involved, especially Buddy (formerly known as Smokey).
They told me he was dead. I had no reason to doubt them. When I saw the
news I was happy that he survived. Their behavior since the news came
out really disturbs me. They were more concerned about their own butts.
I now believe it was that way from the beginning. Why else would she
remove the collar as well as the leash after it happened? My boyfriend
had to go yesterday to pay the stinking 200.00 fine to protect his
sister from further legal issues. They wouldn't even scrape up the
money themselves. So, I guess that is that. Miraculously, Buddy
survived and will be well taken care of in the future. That's the
important thing now. Thank God.
I pray that they don't get another pet. If so, I'll have my eyes wide
open and will be watching!

I was a bit skeptical at first, as we do have quite a number of weird-o's
who post here. But I thought I'd take your word for it that you were on the
up and up. You seemed to know the area and details moreso than the *freaky*
posters, plus you didn't come off as psycho, as most of them do. ;-)
I did find out that Durham County has better dog abuse laws than Wake County
has, which surprised the hell out of me. I'm in Wake County. The city of
Raleigh has always been quite responsive when I've had any dealings with
Animal Control.
I'm still pondering where to go from here. How further to get involved to
perhaps *protect* the next *buddy/smokey* in the future. You just know
there will be more, unfortunately. After reading the story of poor buddy,
it just broke my heart. Looking over at the two dogs I've got here, no
longer looking like skin and bones themselves. And no longer outside in the
elements, alone, hungry and afraid. Gracie, the dog we rescued a couple
years ago after the death of our beloved 14 yr. old dog, bonded to me like
glue from the first day we brought her home. When ever I sat or laid down
anywhere, she would either straddle me, or wrap her front legs around me as
if in a hug. She didn't even bark for the first two weeks that we had her.
And when I innocently got the broom out to sweep the kitchen floor, she
cowered, shook uncontrollably, tucked her tail under and ran. Like anybody
needs a written document to explain the prior treatment she must have had.
Nice to meet you, and hope, if crime is your thing, you will continue to
post here.
best,
td
