I'm sure everyone "promises" that they will show up.
It's usually granted to someone who has been shown
to be trustworthy - usually the wealthy and/or those known in social
circles, or prominent in society. In other words, not people who are
at risk of fleeing.
I don't understand how this is not blatant discrimination against lower
class or non-celebrities. Why should a person be able to skip bail
simply because they are rich/famous?
