In your counseling days, was the 'current thinking' that sex offenses
are not about 'sex'? Why is 'sex' the only topic when it comes to sex
offenders when the issues that revolve around sex offenses are not
sexual at all? Of course, it works for politics...

Castration doesn't prevent him from achieving an erection; it won't
even stop him ejaculating. It just means that his ejaculate will be
seminal fluid without sperm. Oh and he won't go bald.

Ir reduces testosterone and so may lower the man's sex drive and hence
the recidivism rate.

However, if chemically castrated the man can just stop the treatment. If
physically, they can get testosterone e.g. from your friendly local
bodybuilder.

Also, not all child molesters get off on the sex itself. As with most
rapists, it can be the sense of power and/or the enjoyment of the
victim's pain or fear that is the primary motivation.


Interesting. Long ago, before I paid a lot of attention to details, I
read or was told that a significant percentage of rapes never end in
ejaculation - the theory being the reasons you state, about
power/fear/pain. I wonder if that is true, and if so, what the stats are.

This is true. Rapists have also been known to use foreign objects if
they fail to get an erection. In my counseling days I even spoke to a
woman who had been raped by two gay friends of hers.
