So you don't think you could murder someone if you decided to?
Assuming that you also decided to accept all possible consequences?

You're standing there with the gun in your hand, you've made the
decision, you're ready to accept all consequences -- what's
stopping you? What makes you incapable of pulling the trigger?

The difference is that I couldn't "decide" to kill anyone. I could probably
pull the trigger in self-defense, or I might kill if I were mentally ill and
thought I heard voices telling me to. I don't think people who are mentally
ill and think they're hearing voices make a conscious, rational decision to
kill.

I am proficient with a handgun. Against cold, unfeeling targets. I have serious doubts as to whether I could shoot another person, even under duress or in self defense. But, I've never faced that. Hope I never do. Still, that conditioning would be hard to overcome. The admonition not to shoot another person. Hell, I failed at hunting. I just couldn't pull the trigger when push came to shove. And I REALLY wanted that squirrel. Damn, what a weenie. OTOH, I am a creative person and sometimes I do have elaborate revenge fantasies, at times against real or perceived problems with people who have got on my wrong side, but seemingly as a psychological exercise, instead of any real world desire to hurt anyone.

How about murdering someone with a knife or strangulation, etc. Highly doubtful. Violence, even third hand violence, leaves me a quivering mass.....
