DURHAM - A sex abuse allegation the accuser in the Duke University lacrosse
rape scandal made a decade ago was a claim of statutory rape.
The woman is 27 now. In 1996, she told police that three males raped her
three years earlier when she was 14. The police report listed the case as a
statutory rape.

One of the males was her adult boyfriend, according to the woman's
ex-husband.

Kenneth McNeil, a Durham man who was married to the woman for 17 months,
said in an interview Friday that three years after the incident, he urged
her to make the report to Creedmoor police to help her overcome the trauma.

"I wanted them to pay for what they did," said McNeil, who was then engaged
to the woman.

I read in a blog that McNeil is 14 years older than the accuser. Just
a comment, nothing else.

He explains she works as an exotic dance to make ends meet because she
has a lot of people dependent on her.

Shes trying to make money to pay her bills. She has two beautiful
little kids and then she has a father and a mother and a sister and
brother that need her, too. And, I know for a fact shes doing it to
pay her way through school.

McNeil said shortly after the couple married, he drove his then wife to
California so she could join the Navy. He says she served on the USS
Mount Hood, an ammunition ship.

She wanted to see the world, and I told her the best way to see the
world was to jump into the armed forces and go, he tells Inside
Edition.

McNeil was 32-years-old when he married the then-18-year-old, who was
still in high school. He credits her with teaching him how to read and
write. She was very smart--somebody who was making As and Bs in
schoolthats somebody stable right there

Even though the couple broke up after only a year, McNeil continues to
stand by her. She is a bright young lady whos ambitious. She wants to
have something out of life. She always told me, Kenny, I dont want to
be poor. I want to have something in life; I want to make something
out of myself.
