Richmond police say a driver for a Henrico limousine company raped an
intoxicated woman in his car while she waited for her friends in
Shockoe Slip last weekend.

Michael Anthony Mack, 48, was arrested Thursday and charged with rape
and object penetration, Police Chief Rodney Monroe confirmed last
night.

Monroe said the 21-year-old woman, who lives in Louisa County, was
among a group of four friends who used the limousine during a night out
April 22.

According to the police account of the events, about 10:30 p.m., two
girlfriends escorted the intoxicated woman to Mack's limo from the
Richbrau Brewing Co. on East Cary Street and then left. When the two
girlfriends and the boyfriend of one of the women returned to the limo
about 12:30 a.m., they found the vehicle locked. Mack emerged from the
back seat of the limo moments later, where the woman was found
partially undressed.

Monroe said that later that morning, the woman went to a hospital and
underwent tests to determine if she had been sexually assaulted. She
contacted police.

The chief said the department's major-crimes-unit investigators
interviewed the woman and her friends. They interviewed Mack on
Thursday and charged him.

Mack could not be reached for comment last night. A call to a contact
number yielded a voice mail describing a business called Professional
Limousine Services on Avalon Drive in Henrico County.

The company is listed as a registered and insured limousine service in
the state of Virginia, according to the Department of Motor Vehicles'
Web site.
