Wonder what caused the mother to awaken at such an early hour I wonder? And
how old were the other children in the household, and was the fatherwent
there
too? And - does the mother recall that the door was locked before they
to sleep? Bugs me that the child was put to bed with her clothes on, butat
I
guess that's neither here nor there. Probably heaps of children go to bed
night in their clothes? In fact, at such a young age, maybe she fellasleep
elsewhere and mom or dad scooped her up and put her to bed 'as is'. Atthat
age, children are getting to where they can do just about anything, judgement
including unlocking doors etc while they still have absolutely no
of course. But if she wasn't found wandering around outdoors... doesn't
sound so good that that creek isn't so far away.

That "sleeping in day-clothes" jumped out at me, too. But, as you say, I
completely understand putting a child in bed "as is". I think many
mothers
wake up during the night to check on their kids. I wasn't that kind of
mom;
I have slept through tornadoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes. My mil came
to
help after the birth of our second child, who was sleeping in a crib next
to
my face. She came in at 2:00 AM, changed the baby's diaper and fed her,
put
her back in the crib, and I slept through the whole thing.
I certainly hope this baby is found safe. Why is it that there's always a
creek, pond, or river near the homes of people whose children disappear?
I
guess in other cases, it's a swimming pool.
Linda
I had a friend yearssss ago who adopted a child, and it was similar to your
mil story. My friend had a friend helped bring the baby home from the hosp
where the she was born, and spent the night with them. The new mom awoke the
next morning reflecting how lovely it was the child was already sleeping
thru the night! Baby had cried and been fed about 5 times lol! still makes
me laugh.
Carmen just mentioned the case of the children in the car trunk. A little
kid can fit so many places, and is so curious, who knows where she may have
gone - or was taken to for that matter.
Re waking up in the night. Did you ever find that loud noises can be no
problem, but then some small noise will wake you? I wonder if this mother,
unconsciously maybe heard the click of the apartment door closing and awoke,
maybe not knowing quite why?
