His kids were in the house. My question is: How do you get a man to
stand still to be shot in the back with a shotgun with his kids in the
house at that? Wouldn't he have heard the sound of the shotgun being
cocked, at least? That unmistakable sound was famously depicted in
"Roger and Me" as sending burglars running. How would it be possible
for Mary to sneak up behind him and shoot him in the back with a
shotgun? Would he be still while a shotgun was being cocked with his
kids in the house? Was he listening to his ipod really loud? Did he
freeze and stammer "D-d-don't sh-sh-shoot?"

Maybe she cocked the shotgun in a place away from where she shot him
(so he wouldn't hear it being cocked)?

Are we talking about racking up the shot-gun? That's a fairly loud noise
usually.
