I said they should burn a spare tire. But if you're stuck, you could
burn ALL your tires. You can always get more. You can't replace
your kids' and grandkids' lives, though. Douse a tire in gasoline
and keep throwing wood on.
And where is all this dry wood coming from, in the middle of winter?
I wonder if the search aircraft are equipped with anything to detect a
cell
phone. Probably not, but that would be a good idea. That way even if
they
aren't in range of a cell tower, the search plane could fly over and
home in
on them via triangulation by signal strength.
1) The cell phone would have to be actively transmitting during the
same time period the plane was searching on those freqs.
2) True triangulation requires more than one receiving station. A
single plane wouldn't yield very effective results. In amateur radio
we call this sort of searching a "fox hunt" and do it for fun.
3) The Stivers took steps to make the RV more visible from the air, to
no avail. They are reported to have burned things, also to no avail.
4) You're wasting your time here. There's still meat on the bones Bo.
They won't quit until fresh meat comes along.

Take a pill, Carmen.
You are unwilling to acknowledge any ideas or information that undermines
your theory these people did absolutely nothing. Why is that?
First of all, if they did some things like we discussed here, GREAT.
However, I saw them interviewed and they said they PRAYED -- nothing else.
I'm going on what I saw them say. <shrug> So, what's your point and WTF is
with Carmen's hysteria? Do you both honestly think that people should not
have a hand in their own fate? That sitting and praying is appropriate
action? What's you POINT?

From the Payson Roundup:
Snow, as high as the windows of the Higginbothams' RV fell near the
8,000-foot Siskiyou summit of Mt. Ashland, stranding the family for 17
days.
Elbert, by chance, found a trash can and windsock nearby.
"He wasn't too far from a summit," Higginbotham said. "He would sit on
the trash can with the windsock and tried to flag down help. He thought
if anyone was flying around, they would find him."
