I said they should burn a spare tire. But if you're stuck, you could
burn ALL your tires. You can always get more. You can't replace
your kids' and grandkids' lives, though. Douse a tire in gasoline
and keep throwing wood on.
And where is all this dry wood coming from, in the middle of winter?
I wonder if the search aircraft are equipped with anything to detect a
cell
phone. Probably not, but that would be a good idea. That way even if
they
aren't in range of a cell tower, the search plane could fly over and
home in
on them via triangulation by signal strength.
1) The cell phone would have to be actively transmitting during the
same time period the plane was searching on those freqs.
2) True triangulation requires more than one receiving station. A
single plane wouldn't yield very effective results. In amateur radio
we call this sort of searching a "fox hunt" and do it for fun.
3) The Stivers took steps to make the RV more visible from the air, to
no avail. They are reported to have burned things, also to no avail.
4) You're wasting your time here. There's still meat on the bones Bo.
They won't quit until fresh meat comes along.

Take a pill, Carmen.
You are unwilling to acknowledge any ideas or information that undermines
your theory these people did absolutely nothing. Why is that?
First of all, if they did some things like we discussed here, GREAT.
However, I saw them interviewed and they said they PRAYED -- nothing else.
I'm going on what I saw them say. <shrug> So, what's your point and WTF is
with Carmen's hysteria? Do you both honestly think that people should not
have a hand in their own fate? That sitting and praying is appropriate
action? What's you POINT?
Did you read Betsy's post? They did stuff to attract attention. It
didn't work. You're *still* being rotten even after being told they
took actions to help themselves beyond just praying. I can't speak for
Poe, but my point is now that your nominal "They didn't do anything to
help themselves" talking point has been refuted you're still being
nasty. It's not a new thing for you and a few others, and it isn't
likely to stop until someone else comes along for you to sharpen your
claws on.
Carmen
My point always was why that they took that road in the first place.
It was
6:00 pm when they left, it took an hour from Ashland to get to that
turnoff so it was
7:00 pm. The stepfather said he wanted to take the scenic route across
the mountains to the ocean. It's at least 7:00 pm, what can you see at
that time. And we don't even know what the weather forecast was for
that night or the next day. I''m not saying I'm not happy they made it
out
ok, of course I am. But I am questioning why they took that route, and
why they went up a gravel road in an RV. I don't think the original
road is gravel,
but I think it's narrow and one lane in places. You want to do that at
night
in a motorhome. What will you get to see?

The family that disappeared into thin air while on an ill-chosen route
to the Oregon Coast March 4 re-appeared in front of America on Tuesday
after a quick and remarkable turnaround to a missing persons case
police feared would not end happily.

As it turned out they began a day adventure to the Coast with a poor
road choice that in fact had them lost. But when the snow began to fall
and an arctic storm rolled over the state, the family became trapped by
a prison made of white fluffy snow.
