What is legal to give away for free, but illegal to sell?

Freeware. Most freeware programmers don't care how many copies you make and
give away, but if you start selling it, they can get mighty pissed. Freeware
isn't something you can really "buy" in any context. Even Linux, which is free
and also sold in "distribution" sets - you're not paying for Linux when you buy
the distribution, you're paying for the unique features and (usually) tech
support that go along with that particular distribution.

Even close? :-?
