Ah, yes. Another dad who thinks he can supervise small children and
sleep at the same time. And I love the way they always say they "fell
asleep" as if there was no choice in the matter. Unless the guy had been
up 24 hours straight beforehand, I suggest that in actuality the wording
should be "I decided to take a nap and let the little guy fend for
himself."

You're kinder than I am. I always assumed "fell asleep" meant
"passed out drunk".

Yeesh . . . why does it seem that there's so many st00pid parents out
there?? I knnow a couple like that - they're my neighbors!

About 2-3 months ago, I popped out real quick to hit the grocery store
around 9:30-10:00 PM and almost *hit* my neighbor's 3 yo son about a
mile from his house, playing in the street. Needless to say, I packed
him in my car and took him home. They didn't even know he was gone!
Instead of the "typical" reaction you'd expect (Oh! My gosh! Don't ever
do that again!, etc) all I heard was, "Yeah, he gets out sometimes."
and "Go back to bed."

I was *floored*! Hubby and I argued about it for about 2 hours - me
wanting to call the cops and he not wanting to piss off the neighbors.
Too, I think he was afraid that they'd report me for "kidnapping." I
just honestly didn't know what to do other than put him in my car. I
don't know his parents well enough to know their cell/home number and I
didn't want to call the cops (just in case it *was* an isolated
accident). Looking back, and seeing what rotten parents they are, I
wish I had have called them. I keep worrying about that poor kid.

An older brother of this child once hit my DD in the gut with a ball
(on purpose - he was mad at her for winning a game they were playing).
When I dragged her over to complain and get an apology out of her son,
she said "What am I supposed to do? Discipline him? He's too old for
that." The kid is 10 frigging years old and he's too old to discipline?
My DD gets grounded, talked to (AKA lectured), etc. But all this woman
did was tell her son to run off and play before she took him out for
ICE CREAM!! Wouldn't giving a kid a helluva raspberry on the gut on
*purpose* warrant skipping a trip to Dipping Dots?? Again, YEESH!!

Some children are just escapers. I was at age 3, and there was little
my mother could do about it. It was never a question of her taking
"naps" she would just turn around and I'd be gone. She and my older
brothers were constantly searching for me, I usually wasn't far, but
one time I made it across the park next to my house, across a four lane
busy street and into the supermarket.

When we visited my grandmother in Chicago for an extended period the
local cops knew me by name.
