Someone should do a study on "chemistry" - who's to say that if Paul
and Karla never met, or Ian and Myra (she was a nurse for goodness
sakes - and by all reports, alone, they were normal - it wasn't until
they got together that all hell broke loose) those victims wouldn't
still be alive?? What is it about their "chemistry" together that
made
them heartless killers? I'd love to know the answer . . .

I just snipped this for brevity to make a couple of corrections. Myra
Hindley was never a nurse. I'm not sure where you got that from, but
she was neither an RN nor an LPN not the British equivalent (if they
are different.) She was working in an office when she met Brady.

Yes, I realized my mistake shortly after writing that . . . it was
Carol Bundy (of the Sunset Slayer fame, I think) who was the nurse.

Yes, Carol Bundy was a nurse. Clark got the DP, she got life but she,
like Hindley, beat her partner to the end.

Brady had a long history of crime and violence before he met Hindley.
To portray him as somehow not criminally minded before he met her would
be pretty far from the truth.

Again, I realized that afterwards . . . didn't he have a history of
"non-violent" crimes, though? Burglary and theft? Nothing like what he
and Myra did once they joined up, though, I think . . .

Some assaultive behavior, but nothing like what happened after they
were together. I think he was on the path to doing something awful by
himself, though.

I think the closest thing we have to Homolka in this country is
Charlene Gallego, who portrayed herself as a tiny, innocent victim. She
got away with only doing 16 years for the deaths of far more people
than Homolka. She's been free since 1997.

Yes, but she actually made more of a show, from what I recall, of being
a victim than Karla did. But I remember an incident of her and Gerald
getting into a gunfight (literally) over his raping two girls "without
her" - not waiting for her to join in the fun, so to speak.

Too, apparently, they only started kidnapping and killing after a woman
that they brought home for some 3 way action had sex with Charlene
while Gerald was at work. At that point, he "cut her off" and they made
a pact to go out and net themselves some sex slaves.

All and all, Charlene seemed to be more collusive than Karla (despite
the attack on her sister - after all, even though Karla was indifferent
to her sister's death, they didn't *mean* to kill Tammy). Charlene
alweys seemed, to me, to be more murderous than Karla. My HO.

I agree on all counts. I think she got away with murder because 1)she
was female, blonde and petite and 2) Gerald had a record already and,
heck, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree as far as his father was
concerned. I still don't think she should be walking the streets.

I'm not sure that the catalyst or chemsitry will ever be able to be
pinpointed. I had an abusive ex whom I thought would become a serial
killer. I know this sounds corny and contrived, but I think I know a
little bit about the emotions some of these women went through, at
least when things were in the planning stages. I left before he sucked
me into any murderous or assaultive behavior, but I understand those
who could not get out before it started. I don't excuse or condone
their behavior, but I understand it.
