On this day a book was published which was highly controversial. Not
was the book banned, an order was issued that anything the author had
written or ever would write was banned from publication, and the
was
convicted in one of history's most famous trials.
Name this controversial author.
Bo Raxo
Solzhenitsyn.
Didn't have to Google.
Kris
Wrong.
Good guess, though.
Really. It matches all of your clues (although I couldn't determine when
the bookw as published.)
No, I don't think it does. Solzhenitsyn was tried and sentenced for
criticizing Stalin in private correspondence, not for a book. He served
time in prison, and then after that internal exile. His books came later,
only one of them was written and published while he was still in the USSR
(Denisovich). I don't recall if he was also put on trial for that book as
well, my vague recollection is that he wasn't, feel free to Google and find
out.
Bo Raxo
