Nah. My grandfather had a very nice house, built on property in a subdivision with _much_ more expensive homes on much smaller lots. No surprise to us that the person who purchased it from him moved in a little bit of extremely cheap furniture and then the water heater blew up and the house burned to the ground within a few months of closing. Shortly thereafter, the lot was divided and two mega-buck homes built there.
Not too cynical at all.
