The homicide rate in New Orleans was quite high, but as I posted previously,
ALL other crime categories, assault, rape, property crimes, robberies, all
of those are lower than, say, Houston or Baton Rouge. In fact, considering
the amount of poverty, it was impressively low, I would chalk that up to
there being greater social cohesion - many of those poor lived in
neighborhoods they'd been in all their lives, as versus a greater percentage
of transient poor in, say, Houston.
