Kick the AKCs butt! They are sponsoring the breed "type", and
giving the breeders a stage to advertise from. The "deed" begins right
there .. with the judging standard that promotes crossing Terriers
into larger breeds, and then breeding for the "terrier type" in those
dogs so that they are highly aggressive fighters. Much of that is
done to generate specialty breeds as guard dogs, police dogs, etc,
but then those dogs go on the market to the general public with no
information as to the "clear and present" danger in owning one of
them. Listen to me carefully !! ... NO HUMAN TRAINER can train
the "Terrier" out of one of those dogs. A handler of one of those dogs
has to be trained to understand what provokes their aggressiveness
and how to avoid those situations. As a former breeder of Bull
Terriers,
I would NEVER sell one of my dogs to the general public. But, I was
constantly approached by HICKS who wanted a stud dog for the
purpose of breeding PITT BULL outcrosses to sell to their "friends".
No way!!!! The only solution to this problem is to outlaw the "TYPE".
Anyone caught breeding to the Bull Terrier type should be fined and
jailed unless they have special permission from LE, to generate
a specialty working dog needed for their standard. LE should enforce
a PET type for the general public. That pet type should not exceed
25 pounds in weight, nor should it be bred to have downface to enhance
its bite. I'm glad the insurance companies are in the act. I know that
will help.
