Almost as bad as naming an Australian state after another defunct
political entity.

Breton

Which Australian State is that then?

Gotta be NSW!!!

But OSW is not and never has been a political entity, defunct or
otherwise, to the best of my knowledge.

NSW is named for Wales, which used to be a separate country until it
was taken over by England.

Breton

No, NSW is named for South Wales, which was not a separate country.

Well, whether it was names for part of or the whole of Wales, doesn't
detract from the fact that it contains the name of a defunct political
entity.

In my experience everything is so misspronounced in Australia that any
resemblance to the original is often lost.

Melbourne is Mel-bern, Launceston is Lawn-cess-tun, Albany is Al
Benny. Nobody can even pronounce the name of the country's longest
serving Prime Minister. So Wales comes out sounding a bit like
"whiles"!- Hide quoted text -

It is called an accent Chrissy boy. What do you expect?

You do realise that most Australians would think that most English
people mispronounce an assortment of place-names.

I don't expect a reasonable response from you because you are never
wrong.- Hide quoted text -

How could one possibly dissagree with someone who always claims to
speak for most Australians?
