Although this poster's comments and choices for discussions are
frequently obviously disturbing, I think that in this case he has
inadvertently hit on a legitimate topic for discussion.
Namely, I believe that there is a disconnect between the majority of
the population of the United Kingdom (and the world, in fact) and what
I can only describe as country life.
I do not believe that the majority of the people in the world
understand any longer the liberty and freedom that country life gives
to people who might not otherwise experience the kind of freedom that
most of us feel and understand to be a part of everyday life as a
regular tax paying citizen.
I also believe that there is a complete disconnect, a complete lack of
education regarding the important part that "the country" has played
in the development of the constitutional history of the English
speaking world, and a lack of education regarding the important part
that people of the country, the people of the shires, have
disproportionately played in the *leadership* of the countries of the
English speaking world.
People simply no longer understand what life in the country is about.
They no longer understand that wringing a pheasant's neck is a logical
thing to do. They no longer understand that simply wacking a Lab with
a stick to break up a hegemony struggle is the logical thing to do.
The Queen does not set out in the morning meaning to insult people.
To the extent that people no longer understand the liberty of the
country, perhaps it would be best to try to get the press, especially
its more sensationalist element, to understand that they simply need
to stay away.
I do not know if there is any point in trying to educate the general
population about life in the country, and how different it is from
life in the City. This is something that has to start at a very early
stage in the school systems, and we have let this slip from our
control, and we have allowed it to remain outside our influence for
too long to be able to snap it back quickly.
In this particular case, I think that it would be entirely reasonable
to simply ask the press to stay away from Sandringham this winter.
Even if it is only to allow Prince William and our future princess
Kate to express themselves naturally and affectionately without the
intrustions of a telephoto lens, it is logical to ask the press to
stay away.
The Queen and Prince William are usually simply not allowed the same
kind of liberty that we ourselves enjoy as everyday private citizens,
and I think that it is entirely reasonable to allow people who devote
their very beings to the service of the peoples of this planet to have
a month of privacy and quiet expressions of friendliness and normal
family life.
