Regards,
The Chief
I am quite amazed that the "Palace" had the gall to ask for an
increase in these times of the credit crunch. Just shows how out of
touch they are.
Actually, they asked for it a long time ago. Buckingham Palace, in
particular, needs quite a lot of external repairs because the masonry
is falling down. Not very different from the Chancellor's own
residence, No 11 Downing Street, which is undergoing major
refurbishment. We are told that the latter is a "good thing" because
the building industry is in crisis.
How long is a "long time ago" ? As far as I am aware 11 Downing Street
is the residence of the elected Chancellor of the UK. There is a
massive difference. Perhaps if the RF left BP and the NT took it over
they might get the money to cover the costs of repairs.- Hide quoted text -
As far as I know, the Chancellor isn't elected by anybody. He is
appointed by the Prime Minister from amongst his political friends.
The person so chosen, if a member of the House of Commons, may well be
elected by his own constituents to represent them as their MP, but he
certainly isn't elected by anyone as Chancellor.
So the Chancellor is indeed an elected member of the House of Commons,
is that what you are saying ?- Hide quoted text -
What I am telling you is perfectlky obviosu from what i have written.
There is no such animal as "the elected Chancellor of the UK". That is
a constitutional impossibility.
And that is not what I said in my reply. The Chancellor is an integral
member of an elected government.- Hide quoted text -
What you said was "11 Downing Street is the residence of the elected
Chancellor of the UK".
The Chancellor is not elected by anyone. That is a constitutional
impossibility.
