I believe that though commonly called Archdukes of Austria, that these
royals used formally other titles and styles...Since the Hungarian and
Bohemian Crowns became hereditary all the Austrian Habsburgs were
princes in these realms...They were addressed "Most Serene X/Y"...
I have pictures with these titles (translated to English):
(the father of Emperor Ferdinand II) "Charles, by the Grace of God,
Archduke of Austria, Duke of Burgundy, Styria, Carinthia, etc, Count
of Tyrol and Gorizia, etc"
(Queen Maria Anna of Portugal, daughter of Leopold I) "Maria Anna,
Royal Princess of Hungary and Bohemia, Archduchess of Austria"
But can anyone explain more about the titles and styles used?,
especially the style...were them Highness, Royal Highness, or
something else? And the Emperor was Majesty, right?
Obviously one is looking for information before 1780 (deathyear of
Maria Theresia, the last Arch“duke” - at least in Latin; the last ex
stirpe Habsburg).
