He was an HRH through his Dano-Greek family connections. It has been

Whatever styles he had, he lost (in Britain) after his naturalization, and he
became (in the UK) Lt. Philip Mountbatten, RN (e.g., in the royal consent to his
marriage, 31 Jul 1947). Then on Nov. 19, 1947 he became Lt. Sir Philip
Mountbatten, KG, RN; and, hours later,Lt Sir Philip Mountbatten, KG, RN. The
next day he became HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, KG.
