James A. Harden-Hickey, a Baron of H. R. E.?

The American-born James A. Harden (1854 - 1898) led a colorful life
including proclaiming himself ruling prince of a small island off the
Brazilian coast, Trinidad. However, most sources state that he was
made a Baron of the H. R. E. for his early writings in defense of the
church. His first wife was supposedly "Countess de Saint-Pery" and his
second wife was American Standard Oil heiress Anna Flagler. Does
anyone have a source from the period which might indicate whether he
was, in fact, created a Baron? He took his own life in a small Texas
hotel with an overdose of morphine.
Many thanks,
Rick
