That's a brilliant, but inherently flawed, take on the issue.
For one thing most religions are already discriminated against that
way. A Southern Baptist could become Sovereign, but by doing so he
would appear to endorse Apostolic Succession; and many other doctrines
that the SBC teaches are un-Christian.
More importantly very few people think the Catholic/Protestant divide
is a big deal. The Liberal Christian/Conservative Christian divide is
much more noticeable in the US, and there are Christians of both
stripes in damn near every denomination. If you tried to draw people
into a debate on, say, the intricacies of the Trinity and Monotheism
they'd think you were mocking Jesus. Denominational infighting is
simply an anachronism.
And that's in a religious country, that boasts about intrepid founders
who fled England because they disagreed with the official
denomination.
